Raku - Mixed Media - Altered Forms
Although utilitarian stoneware pottery is my primary focus, I am spending more time working in what I like to call my Neo-Primitive Mixed Media Raku sculpture.
This body of work draws from my interest in primitive cultures such as those of Africa, Asia and Native America. These cultural influences have inspired me to create a continuing body of work that is wheel-thrown, hand-built, altered and a combination of these forming methods. The pieces take on many different forms and aesthetics making reference to primitive dwellings and evoking ritualistic ceremonial feelings. This work shows a fair amount of spontaneity and improvisation and I liken it to the jazz of my clay work.
